Trouble Shooting the Easy Mole Trap

If you have carefully followed the step-to-set instructions, but have not caught a mole within 24 to 48 hours please refer to the image below and do the following:

  1. Make sure the trap is set in an active tunnel with recent activity, which is indicated by moist, loose soil.

  2. Make sure you have created air holes in the tunnel on either side of the trap to draw the mole to the location.

  3. Make sure to wear gloves when handling the trap as human scent may deter the mole. To remove human scent, carefully submerge the trap in boiling water. Do NOT use detergent, soap, or chemicals as the scent may deter moles.

  4. Make sure the trap is set in the correct direction, so the top lever is perpendicular with the tunnel and the closed scissor jaws straddle the tunnel.

  5. When setting the trap, make sure the trigger disk is parallel with the ground and the trigger stem remains as vertical as possible. The trigger stem should remain vertical when the trap is set in the ground. WARNING: Keep hands and fingers away from the scissor jaws and ONLY set the trap when underground.

  6. Make sure the trap is fully armed with both top levers parallel with the ground.

  7. Make sure the set trap only partially collapses the tunnel. If the tunnel is fully collapsed moles may go around the trap and create a new tunnel.

If you have followed the above steps correctly but the trap has still not caught a mole, please refer to the image below and do the following to adjust the sensitivity of your trap:

  1. Wear the gloves provided.

  2. Place the trap on a work surface with one of the frame screws facing up.

  3. Using a screwdriver or pliers, turn the screw head one quarter turn to the left.

  4. Turn the trap over so the second frame screw is on facing up.

  5. Using a screwdriver or pliers, turn this second screw head one quarter turn to the left. The trap frame should now pivot freely with little to no resistance. If you can still feel resistance, turn both screw heads another quarter turn to the left, or until the frame pivots freely.

  6. Reset the trap in the ground following the step-to-set instructions.

  7. If the trap has again failed to catch a mole within 24 hours, repeat steps 1-6 above to further adjust the sensitivity of the trap.

With patience and persistence, the Easy Mole Trap will stop mole damage so you can reclaim your lawn and love the result. If you have questions please contact us at (800) 875-5707. We look forward to helping you achieve success.
